Delhi Sightseeing by Cab — The Complete Guide
🏛️ Delhi has 3 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, over 1,000 historical monuments and neighbourhoods that span 1,000 years of Indian history — from the 12th century Qutub Minar to the 2005 Akshardham Temple. No other city in India offers this depth of heritage in one place.
Delhi is simultaneously India's capital, one of the world's oldest continuously inhabited cities and a living museum of Indian history. Every neighbourhood tells a different chapter — the Mughal grandeur of Old Delhi, the colonial-era planned boulevards of Lutyens' Delhi, the medieval ruins scattered through South Delhi's Mehrauli and the modern spiritual architecture of East Delhi. Covering all of this without a dedicated cab is exhausting and inefficient.
Why a Dedicated Sightseeing Cab is Better Than Public Transport
Delhi's metro is excellent — but it does not drop you at monument entrances. The last mile from a metro station to Red Fort, Humayun's Tomb or Akshardham still requires an auto-rickshaw or e-rickshaw, bags in hand, negotiating fares in the heat. A dedicated Delhi sightseeing cab drops you at the entry gate, waits in the parking area and picks you up from the same point when you are ready. For families, elderly travellers or anyone visiting Delhi in summer, the cab is not optional — it is essential.
Best Time to Visit Delhi for Sightseeing
October to March is the ideal window. Temperatures are between 8–28°C, skies are clear and outdoor sightseeing is genuinely pleasant. December and January see Delhi's famous fog — beautiful at monuments but adds 20–30 minutes to driving times. February–March is the finest month — mild weather, Mughal Gardens open at Rashtrapati Bhavan and the city at its most vibrant.
Avoid May–June if possible. Delhi's heat peaks at 44–47°C and outdoor monuments become uncomfortable after 10 AM. If visiting in summer — start at 6:30–7 AM, cover monuments by noon and use the afternoon for indoor attractions like museums and temples.
Old Delhi vs New Delhi — Which to Prioritise?
Old Delhi (Shahjahanabad) offers the most visceral, sensory experience — Red Fort, Jama Masjid, Chandni Chowk, the spice market and the narrow lanes unchanged for centuries. It requires the most patience and is best experienced on foot once the cab drops you at the gates. Allow 3–4 hours minimum.
New Delhi offers the grandest visual scale — India Gate, Kartavya Path, Rashtrapati Bhavan and Parliament House. These are best seen from the cab or with short walks. The contrast between Mughal Old Delhi and British New Delhi in a single day is one of the most unique sightseeing experiences in any city in the world.
